VSAC’s efficiency efforts earn EPA ENERGY STAR® certification for sixth straight year
Winooski headquarters ranks in top 10 percent across the U.S.
WINOOSKI (November 28, 2016) – Vermont Student Assistance Corp. has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR certification for the sixth year in a row, racking up its highest score yet for energy efficiency and strict performance levels set by the EPA.
“This is the sixth year we have received the award and our 90 score means our headquarters in Winooski scores in the top 10 percent of all similar buildings in the program across the country,” said Mike Stuart, VSAC vice president and CFO. “We’re saving money, protecting the environment and setting a standard for Vermont commercial buildings.”
Only nine commercial sites in Vermont qualified for the ENERGY STAR certification this year, according to the EPA.
Commercial buildings that earn EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment, “ said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”
