2016 Career Planning Conference – Video Keynote Project. $50 Visa Gift Card for students who submit a video used in the keynote!

Greetings Vermont students and educators,

This year’s Career Planning Conference is May 11, 2016 at Lake Morey. The theme this year is “Your Story, Your Path: How Our Stories Shape Our Direction”. The practice of storytelling offers students and families a sense of their own history — a sense of belonging and understanding. Storytelling can bolster passion and drive toward a career. Our students have something to say — they each have a story and they want us to hear it — they are eager to share — and want us to know who they are. Our conference committee believes that this act of storytelling can be a powerful experience that can inform and improve the flexible education pathways outlined in student’s PLPs.

Rather than have a traditional keynote speaker at this year’s conference we will be screening video submissions that students have sent in. We want students to share the stories that have helped them in their path toward graduation and gaining insight, advice, and experience toward a career. We are searching for students who want to share their own story. Students who can answer the questions — What path am I on? What kind of people do I need to support me? Where do I want to go? What are my skills and talents? What experiences and supports do I need to achieve the career I am working toward? We are looking for students who can develop their story to share with educators, counselors, and people around the state who can help them actualize their dreams.

We want to hear from students in their own voices in their own style. Video recordings that tell their stories — in their own way – this will be our keynote.
