Bernice Murray Scholarship
(sponsored by former U.S. Senator James Jeffords and
the Federal Executives’ Association)
This scholarship was created by former U.S. Senator James M. Jeffords
of Vermont, along with family and friends of Bernice Murray, longtime
aide to Senator Jeffords. The scholarship was established to honor her
unselfish contributions to improving the lives of Vermonters. This
scholarship is funded by an endowment subject to laws restricting
disbursements under certain investment yield scenarios; as a result,
there can be no guarantee of a scholarship award for the upcoming
academic year.
Eligibility:
• Attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding
(Pell grants, Stafford loans, PLUS loans)
• Be a single parent with primary custody of at least one child 12 years
of age or younger
• Demonstrate financial need
Required documents:
Unified Scholarship Application, FAFSA,
recommendation letter #1 (non-relative), essay #1 (general essay), child
care information
(provide current/future day care provider’s name, address,
and phone numbers; also include the age of each child attending day care, the
number of hours each child will be in day care/week, and the total cost of day
care/week),
and family information
(provide the name and age of the
youngest child for whom you are the custodial parent)
Amount:
One or more scholarships totaling $2,000 to be used for
payment of child care expenses
Selection:
Financial need, recommendation letter, and essay

National Association of Insurance and
Financial Advisors Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2013 to award an annual scholarship
to a graduating high school senior who is pursuing a business career.
Eligibility:
• Reside or attend high school in Chittenden or Franklin County
• Attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding
(Pell grants, Stafford loans, PLUS loans)
• Seek a degree in business or a related field
• Demonstrate academic achievement
• Demonstrate community involvement/service
Required documents:
Unified Scholarship Application, recommendation
letter #1 (non-relative), recommendation letter #2 (community service),
essay #1 (general essay), and official transcript
Amount:
Two minimum $1,000 scholarships (one to a student who
resides or attends high school in Chittenden County, and one to a
student who resides or attends high school in Franklin County)

Recommendation letters, essay, and academic achievement

National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Vermont
Chapter Lara Sobel Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship will be given to social work students who reflect
Lara Sobel’s ability to seek out the good no matter how overwhelming
and negative the circumstances; never allow the misfortune of indi-
viduals or their level of despair to become routine or acceptable; and
strengthen the cause of child welfare, social justice, and health and
wellness of child welfare staff.
Eligibility:
• Attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding
(Pell grants, Stafford loans, PLUS loans)
• Enroll in a CSWE-accredited BSW, MSW, or DSW/PhD (social
work) program
(preference given to applicants who intend to practice social
work in Vermont)
• Demonstrate academic achievement
• Demonstrate financial need
• Demonstrate community service

essay), and official transcript

One $1,000 scholarship

NorthCountry Federal Credit Union Scholarship
NorthCountry Federal Credit Union wishes to recognize northern
Vermont students who are pursuing higher education, who reflect
the credit union philosophy of people helping people, and who have
demonstrated a commitment to learning and to giving back to the
community.
Eligibility:
• Attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding
(Pell grants, Stafford loans, PLUS loans)
• Reside or attend high school in Addison, Caledonia, Chittenden,
Essex, Franklin, Grand Isle, Lamoille, Orange, Orleans, or
Washington County
• Have overcome a significant challenge or hardship
• Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement (minimum 3.25
cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale)
• Demonstrate community involvement/service

Up to 15 maximum $2,000 scholarships
